MNMOLH306A – Conduct Haul Truck Operations

Dump truck training is undertaken at a working mining site just outside of Perth using Caterpillar and Komatsu 50 tonne rear dump trucks. Only two trainees are taken per course, which runs for four or five days depending on long weekends.

During the course you will complete up to fifty hours of classroom and practical sessions, around forty to forty five of which is driving time, hauling up to and in excess of 300 loads. You will be loaded by wheel loader or excavator and haul loads to the crusher, stockpile or waste dumps, interacting with other personnel by two way radio, exactly as you will on any mine site. By the end of the week you will have a very good understanding of how a typical mine works through actually participating in the mining process.

Our course covers

  • Conducting of pre and post start checks
  • Identification of major components of the dump truck
  • A basic understanding of hydraulics
  • Techniques for maximising efficiency and productivity
  • All aspects of safety relating to dump truck operation
  • An understanding of Occupational Health And Safety requirements

A current drivers licence is a pre-requisite to starting the course. Prior to gaining work in the mining industry in Western Australia you may need to obtain a HR drivers licence and complete a MARCSTA induction. You may also be required to obtain a mines health clearance, a police clearance and pass a drugs test.

After successful completion of your course you will be issued with a Statement Of Attainment and a plastic, wallet sized card stating the unit achieved. All units can contribute towards completion of MNM20105 Certificate II and/or MNM30105 Certificate III in metalliferous mining.
